A Picture is Worth a Thousand………NUMBERS!
Recently ran a Solidworks FLOW CFD Analysis to solve a transient, time sensitive engineering challenge. A chill water system in a critical application has a TES tank backup for any power interruption. Backup power kicks in after the interruption requiring a chiller reset. Chiller takes 5 minutes to ramp up to design temperature. The challenge is to know if the tank is efficiently sized to maintain system temp over the 5-minute restart. Tank outlet supplies CHWS, and chiller outlet supplies the tank inlet. The chiller provides a continuous flow into the tank, yet the chiller output temp is variable (84 > 70 f at the end of the 5-minute period). Tank inlet temp is now variable. The video (below) shows the 5-minute period condensed to 30 seconds. The charts and chiller model are synced during video playback moving in unison. If you would like to “SEE” what is going on in your designs, please give me a call.
